Therapeutic Decluttering
Clutter is rarely just about stuff.
For many people, clutter is about attachment. Objects can carry memory, grief, or identity. For others, clutter is a result of difficulties with task initiation (not knowing where or how to start), or it’s about overwhelm. Shame often underlies the experience of clutter, which makes it all the more challenging to get started.
Traditional decluttering techniques, like pulling everything out of a cupboard, or aiming to get rid of lot of stuff, might not suit you. Instead of being focussed on creating a perfect minimalist space, we can aim for fabulous usable space, with your items safely packed away, or displayed in a way that makes you feel good.
What sessions involve
Therapeutic decluttering sessions combine practical support with psychological care. Depending on what you need, we might work with somatic regulation and relaxation techniques to help your nervous system settle; grief and attachment work where objects carry emotional weight; decision-making support without pressure; and the physical process of sorting, organising, and, where it feels right, letting go.
If you want a more intensive level of support, I can also take away boxes for donation and arrange disposal of items so that nothing gets left in your hands at the end of a session that exhausted you.
